We have help. The Hinunangan Spirit Beach Park & Scholarship
Foundation was established in September 2005 as a part of the National
Heritage Foundation (NHF) based in Falls Church, Virginia, U.S.A. It
enjoys the 501(c)(3), 509(a)(1) classification of the NHF and shares
its federal tax identification number. We can raise tax deductible
donations here in the
United States and in all of the international
community. There are several ways of raising the funds and we can do it
together for the common goal of preserving the natural beauty of our
beach, restoring our cultural heritage and extending them for
generations to come.
I know that some of you have personal stakes on the land that is
involved in the park redevelopment plan. It is understandable that you
would not want to relinquish ownership for practical implications such
as retirement income and for sentimental reasons of your family’s
inheritance. That is a standpoint that has to be respected by all of
us. We have to talk it over and we have to find a solution that will
allow us to emerge from our negotiations feeling that we have gifted
each other with fairness, respect, honor and love.
However, we need to realize that the decisions we make today should
take into consideration the generations of tomorrow. I have read that
the American Indians, the premier example of a people who has profound
respect for our mother earth, always include the 7th generation of
children in their plans for today. It is an admirable tradition,
something very much worthy of emulation. We do not own the bounty of
our land. Only the Higher Being owns it. We are just the caretakers,
the stewards, and as such, we have the responsibility to be mindful
that we cherish it and share it with everybody, including those who are
not yet born.
We are all interconnected. Anything that we think of, anything that we
say and anything that we do affects each and every single one of us in
this whole universe. We are all familiar with “gaba” as in
“gi-gaba-an”. This phenomenon has an equivalent in other cultures of
the world known as “karma”. It works both ways. Anything good or bad
that we do comes back to us “a hundred-fold”. It also works in the
ecology of the earth which is just as alive as we are. Any trash that
is strewn on our beach, any poison that comes from the misuse of
chemicals in our rice fields and carried to the sea by our rivers, any
destruction of the natural root system that holds the sand against the
tides and surf, can affect the fish, the coral reef that protects the
fish, the tidal currents, the air, the temperature, the weather system,
the trees, the land, and then, the people. We are all one, each and
every single inhabitant of this planet, living or non-living, from the
finest grain of sand to the most regal of kings. There is a saying “If
you pluck a flower in the garden, you disturb a star in the heaven”, a
possibility that used to seem so far-fetched. It is now a recognized
universal truth. Quantum Physics has allowed us to understand that. To
quote Dr. David Hawkins:
“Finally, everyone is accountable to the universe!”
I am urging you to embrace this cause with all your heart and soul. Let
us dream together, let us strive together, and let us achieve together
our beautiful, sweet Hinunangan Beach forever!
Please give me a call, write me an e-mail or a snail mail, make
comments in the forum of Hinunangnon eStambayan, stop me on the street
when you see me, give me your ideas, your objections, your
encouragement, your recommendations and your prayers. Fill out the
donation forms that are enclosed or contact me for more information and
ideas on how you can contribute to the fundraising. A donation of
$100.00 or more a month through automatic credit card or bank
withdrawal or a lump sum donation of $1,000.00 or more in one year
makes you a member of the Board of Regents of the Foundation. As a
member of the Board of Regents, your name is printed on the Foundation
letterhead. However, any amount is greatly appreciated. Surely we can
skip a cup of coffee or a soft drink or sweets once a week or choose
not to eat out once a while. Our people in Hinunangan need our support
- financial, moral and spiritual. They need to feel that we are with
them in this endeavor no matter how small or how big the contribution.
In the end, we want to feel that we are making a difference!
